All aboard! Me with our group leader,Ms. Luella Vengenock & Mr. S. |
Today we traveled by bus to the town
of Tlalpujahua.
It is a beautiful hillside town with a market
where people buy and sell many things!
What can you see in the photograghs?

Then we had lunch in a restaurant that is an old abandoned silver
mine!

Squeaky and our teacher friends |
( Dos Estrellas means Two Stars.)
This old silver mine was a very unsafe place for the miners
who dug through the earth in search of silver and gold.
Lead by a young guide, all of us went
inside the mine for a short distance. It was very dark inside.

After we left the silver mine we got back on the bus
to go to our hotel for the night.
We stopped along the way to photograph some the
giant maguey plants and nopal cactus that grew along the side of the road.
We got to taste cactus during our week in Mexico.
It was very good! ( Don't worry, the sharp thorns are
removed first!)
Our guide Marcos also showed us how a needle and thread can
be made from the tip of a cactus and the fiber inside.
Watch what happens......

|
Squeaky was very careful of the thorns. |

This is a big plant! Can you find Squeaky? |
We spent that night at a very beautiful place called
the Hacienda Cantalagua.
The adventure continues with a visit to the El Rosario Butterfly sanctuary in the
morning!
